The Haverhill School Committee consists of six members elected for four-year terms. The Mayor serves as ex-officio Chairperson of the School Committee email@example.com. Annually at its Organizational Meeting (first meeting in January) the members elect a Vice Chairperson. On January 14, 2021, Mr. Scott Wood, Jr. scottwood9883@ gmail.com was elected by his colleagues to this position.
An Act relative to extending certain COVID-19 measures adopted during the state of emergency was signed by Governor Baker and allows for remote meetings and hearings by public bodies through April 1, 2022, which allows the Haverhill School Committee to hold hybrid meetings . The following provisions have been implemented to ensure public participation in its meetings: in order to register to participate in remote public comment during the school committee meeting, please register here at least 6 hours prior to meeting: Public Comment Registration Link. A link to the public comment session of the meeting will be emailed to you at the address you supply at least two hours before the meeting.
The meetings of the Haverhill School Committee will be held in-person at the location provided on this notice. Members of the public are welcome to attend this in-person meeting. Please note that while an option for remote attendance and/or participation is being provided as a courtesy to the public, the meeting will not be suspended or terminated if technological problems interrupt the virtual broadcast, unless otherwise required by law. Members of the public with particular interest in any speciﬁc item on this agenda should make plans for in-person vs. virtual attendance accordingly.
Regular meetings are usually held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. During the months of July, November and December the committee meets only once. The meeting calendar is provided here 2021-HSC-Calendar-Approved-Version-12.10.20
Outside of the regular meeting schedule, the members serve on several negotiating teams and subcommittees appointed by the Mayor and/or the Vice Chair Vice Chair Scott Wood announced the following 2021 Subcommittee Assignments at the meeting of January 28, 2021 and updated the listing at the March 11, 2021, meeting.
The School Committee’s powers and duties are derived from and controlled by state statute. Its powers and responsibilities are stated in the Policy and Procedure Manual. It is not the job of the School Committee to manage our schools, but to see that our schools are managed well. The School Committee annually updates its goals for the Superintendent of Schools.
