Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, in combination with content areas from the National Standards in Health Education, is embedded within the curriculum and provides education targeted for specific grade levels. Haverhill Public Schools Health Teachers provide age-appropriate Health/Sexual Health Education Instruction for Grades 5-12. Students/families will receive notification letters on content as well as instructions to opt-out. We encourage you to view the Health Curriculum (Sex Education) presented at the School Committee Meeting on Thursday, March 09, 2023. There are additional lessons in Grades 6-8 that will be added to the curriculum in the future including lessons in Grade 8 on Mental Health Awareness and in Grade 5 on Financial Literacy. Partnerships between Gateway and Consentino with the YWCA has continued to be a success with an addition of JGW with select Grade 7 Health classes (caregiver notification provided). We have also provided a Video featuring: Megan Arivella, District Coach of Health and Wellness at HPS, and Lisa Begley, past Dean of Wellness/HHS; they review the information and topics used in Health I & Health II classes at HHS.
