To keep every student safe and compliant with Massachusetts General Law, Haverhill Public Schools strictly regulates how prescription and over-the-counter medications are administered at school. All medications must be delivered by a parent or guardian directly to the school nurse in their original pharmacy-labeled container, accompanied by a signed Licensed Prescriber Order and a Parent Authorization Form.

Haverhill Public Schools is proud to offer before- and after-school programming through our Discovery Club (Grades 1–8) and Access 21 (Grades 9–12). These programs are made possible by federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) and state Afterschool and Out of School Time (ASOST) grants administered by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Is your child turning 5 years old by August 31, 2026? Kindergarten registration is now open!

• Apply Online: Save time by completing your registration application online from any device.

• In-Person Visits: Appointments are required for all in-person registration visits at the Family Resource Center. Appointments can be booked online with the Registration Department.

• Moody Preschool Families: Currently enrolled Moody students do not need a full application, but must submit updated proof of residency, a recent physical exam, and updated immunization records.

Housing Support & Family Stability (McKinney-Vento Act)

If your family is currently without permanent housing—such as staying in a shelter, motel, car, or doubled up with relatives—your child is protected under the federal McKinney-Vento Act. Eligible students have the right to enroll in school immediately without standard paperwork, stay at their current school, and receive free bus transportation to help keep their education stable.

Registering a New Student for 2026–2027

Welcome to Haverhill Public Schools! To enroll your child, complete our quick online registration form or schedule an in-person appointment at our Registration Center.

What you’ll need to complete registration:

• Proof of Residency (such as a utility bill, lease, or mortgage statement)

• Student’s Birth Certificate (or passport)

• Updated Health Records (recent physical exam and complete immunization record)

Haverhill Residency Requirement

To attend Haverhill Public Schools, state law requires that students physically reside within the City of Haverhill with a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. Proof of residency is required upon enrollment and may be requested periodically throughout the school year. If your family moves outside of Haverhill, please contact your school's main office as soon as possible so we can help transition your student smoothly to their new district.

Food Assistance & SNAP Benefits

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides monthly funds on an EBT card to help families buy healthy groceries at local stores. Applying for SNAP also unlocks bonus farm produce money through the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP), utility discounts, and free nutrition programs.

To help keep our students safe, Haverhill Public Schools uses the ZPASS rider identification system. ZPASS allows our Transportation Department to know when and where your child boards and exits the school bus in real time.

Outdoor Recess & Weather Safety

At Haverhill Public Schools, we love giving students fresh air and outdoor play whenever possible, but safety always comes first. We use temperature and weather charts to determine when conditions are safe for outdoor recess. If it is raining or extreme cold or heat falls into caution zones, recess will be held indoors or restricted to hardtop areas.

What is A.L.I.C.E.?

A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) is a nationally recognized safety program designed for active intruder situations. It empowers staff and students to make informed, life-saving decisions based on their immediate environment.

Title IX (federal law) and Chapter 622 (Massachusetts state law) protect students and staff from discrimination, bias, and unfair treatment in public schools.

Together, these laws guarantee that every student—regardless of race, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or national origin—has equal access to school admissions, classes, athletics, extra-curriculars, and school programs. They also strictly prohibit sexual harassment, gender bias, and unfair exclusion from any school activity.

At Haverhill Public Schools, your child's emotional well-being and safety are top priorities. To ensure every student feels supported, we partner with Linewize to use Pulse—a quick, confidential check-in tool that gives students a voice.

• How It Works: Students answer a brief, multiple-choice questionnaire to share how they are feeling and if they need extra support.

This policy establishes a standardized "Opt-Out" procedure to ensure student privacy is respected while streamlining administrative tasks for district staff.

As part of the HPS 1:1 technology initiative, every K–12 student receives a district-owned Chromebook (or iPad) to support their daily learning. Students are responsible for taking good care of their assigned device, keeping it charged, and using it appropriately both at school and at home. To protect against unexpected costs from accidents, loss, or damage, HPS offers an optional $20 annual Device Waiver Fee (insurance) for each student. All school devices feature built-in internet content filters to keep students safe online, and parents can track activity or manage home use through the free Qustodio app provided by the district. Through our 1:1 technology initiative, every Haverhill Public Schools student receives a district-issued Chromebook. To protect against unexpected repair or replacement costs, HPS offers an optional $20 annual Device Waiver Fee. This fee covers accidental damage, repairs, or loss of your student's assigned device for the school year.

• How to Purchase: You can buy the $20 waiver anytime during the school year through our online portal.

• Stolen Devices: Please report stolen devices to your local police department and notify your school's main office immediately.

Please note: The $20 Device Waiver Fee covers one student device for the current school year only and must be renewed annually.
