Good morning, Haverhill families! 

The Consentino School Building Committee met this morning, and we have an important update: demolition of the old Consentino School building will begin tomorrow morning, Friday, August 7th.

We know original timelines pointed toward the week of August 10th, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding as schedule adjustments like this happen.

While saying goodbye to the old building brings a bit of nostalgia, we are beyond excited that this step brings us one huge milestone closer to the completion of the new school property!

Building Demolition and Site Improvements Notice

Building demolition is scheduled to begin the week of August 10th and is expected to run through approximately September 21st. Below are key details regarding site operations, environmental controls, and upcoming improvements:

• Dust Control: To comply with environmental and public health regulations, the site will be sprayed with water during demolition to control air quality and dust. All water will be drawn from metered hydrants or trucks and is paid for entirely by the contractor. While we are sensitive to regional drought conditions, mandatory air quality and dust-suppression standards require this targeted application.
• Noise & Operations: Standard demolition noise will occur throughout the project, with higher-impact equipment—such as an excavator-mounted jackhammer used for the concrete foundation—active for less than 30% of the total duration. Work hours for heavy hammering will be strictly managed to minimize disruption to the surrounding neighborhood.
• Material Management & Recycling: To maximize sustainable practices, materials like steel, concrete, and wiring will be temporarily sorted into dedicated piles on-site prior to off-site transport.
• Debris Transport: All trucks transporting materials will be fully covered before leaving the site to prevent debris from spilling onto local roads.
• Property Boundary Fencing: The District will be installing a new chain-link fence approximately two feet inside the school’s northern property line. Installing the fence within District property ensures a clear boundary line, prevents student cut-throughs into adjacent yards, and helps contain litter within school grounds.

Dear Washington Street Neighbors,

As work continues on the new Dr. Albert B. Consentino School at 685 Washington Street, we want to thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this project. We know that living near a construction site is not always easy, and we sincerely appreciate your continued support as we build an outstanding new school for Haverhill students and families.

As the project enters the demolition phase, we recognize that this stage of construction will have a greater impact on our immediate neighbors. Demolition brings additional noise, increased truck traffic, and understandably, questions about dust and pest control. To help keep residents informed, we will begin providing targeted neighborhood updates with information about upcoming activities, anticipated impacts, and important project milestones.

Upcoming Demolition

Demolition of the former Dr. Albert B. Consentino School is expected to begin during the week of August 4, 2026. While construction schedules can change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, we will do our best to keep you informed by posting updates on our website, Facebook, Instagram, and pages as well as direct emails to those who enroll and via electronic sign to be placed onsite . 

What to Expect

As demolition begins, here are a few things you can expect:

Work Hours
Construction activities will take place during city-approved work hours, generally between 7AM - 3PM.

Noise
Demolition equipment will be operating during work hours. While noise is unavoidable during this phase of the project, the contractor will make every reasonable effort to minimize unnecessary disruption.

Dust Control
Water suppression systems using water trucks will operate throughout demolition to control dust and help maintain air quality.

Pest Control
We understand that demolition can raise concerns about rodents. In anticipation of this work, the project team has significantly expanded pest control efforts. Licensed pest management professionals are actively monitoring and treating the site before, during, and after demolition to minimize the possibility of rodents migrating into the surrounding neighborhood.

Construction Equipment
Heavy machinery, trucks, and demolition equipment will be active on the site. The construction area will remain secured to ensure the safety of both workers and the public.

Traffic
Temporary lane shifts or brief traffic delays may occur on Washington Street as materials are removed from the site. Whenever possible, we will notify neighbors in advance of any significant traffic impacts.

Utilities
If planned utility interruptions become necessary, affected neighbors will be notified in advance. In the event of an emergency interruption, we will communicate information as quickly as it becomes available.
