As part of Whitsons’ ongoing effort to be culturally conscious of the students and communities we serve, we are beginning to include Halal ground beef as a special menu item a few times each month at our Coyote Grill station. Our first Halal World Market special will be served Wednesday, March 9th, and will be “Nachos Grande,” prepared with certified Halal beef.
In addition, students will begin to see signage and stickers on some of our current daily lunch choices that indicates if an item is vegetarian. These stickers will help students who do not eat meat, or who only eat Halal meat, determine if certain item is suitable for their dietary specifications. For hot entrees such as cheese pizza, pasta dishes, and other meatless specials, students will see similar vegetarian indicators on the identifying signage on the lunch line. As always, all these meals meet the National School Lunch Program Guidelines.
If students, staff, or families, ever have questions about school meals they are welcome to contact their school’s nutrition staff, and are also encouraged to reach out directly to Anna Perracchio, RD, LDN at anna.perracchio@haverhill-ps.org
