Dear HPS Families,
On behalf of the faculty and staff at Haverhill Public Schools, we welcome you to the 2023 school year! Students grades 1-12 will arrive on Tuesday, August 30th, for the first day of school. This year our motto is Back-to-Basics, and we will be returning our focus on attendance. Each day is precious, and we look forward to providing all students with a rich and rewarding learning experience. Please support our schools by ensuring your child arrives at school on time every day that they are healthy!
We are excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways, filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. We are working hard to ensure that every student has the opportunity to make their school experience meaningful and successful. Students, we encourage you to take the opportunities at HPS, make good decisions, study hard and do your best every day. I want to thank our families for their continued support. Involvement in your child’s learning can take many forms and incorporate positive experiences inside and outside school. Parents, we invite you to take advantage of the opportunities to support our students’ learning and experiences. The best way to get your child prepared for back to school is by returning to your school routines now. Consistent bedtime and morning routines help ease the transition back to school. We also ask you to please check your school’s website for the classroom wish list.
We have spent our last few summer days getting acquainted with our new staff members. We hosted multiple orientations, and they are excited to meet you and your children on Tuesday. We are excited to introduce our new team members, who are great additions to our school community.
Our 2022-2023 Bus Routes are posted on district and school websites under the Transportation Department. If your child receives specialized transportation, the transportation department will contact you directly via email or phone. If you need an alternate drop at a daycare center or relative’s house, please get in touch with transportation at (978) 420-1921 as soon as possible for the best chance of us accommodating your request.
Back-to-school events are starting. Many schools have open houses on Monday, August 29th, 2022; please check your school website for more information.

- August 30th – September 1st, 2022 – Kindergarten Screening Appointments
- September 2nd, 2022 – Early Release for Students
- September 5th, 2022 – No School
- September 6th, 2022 – No School
- September 7th, 2022 – First Day of School Pre- K/Kindergarten
- September 7, 2022 – Open House @ HHS – 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
- September 26th- September 27th, 2022 – No School – Pre-K ONLY
- September 28th, 2022 – Early Release for Students
As we prepare for your return, we want to remind you that we have multiple days when temperatures will be very high next week. Please send your child to school ready for this by dressing appropriately and bringing refillable water bottles to stay hydrated.
