HPS COVID Update 11-2-2020
In order to continue our open and honest communication about COVID 19 in our schools and our community I wanted to share with you some information this evening. Due to several recent staff members at Consentino School testing positive for Coronavirus, we hosted a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site this afternoon for our staff. After testing 50 staff members, we found that one additional staff member has tested positive. This new case brings the total count of positive cases within our staff to six. At this point there is no indication that the virus has been spread from student to staff or staff to student. After consultation with Katie Vozeolas, Director of Health & Nursing Services, Dr. John Maddox the District Physician, members of the district’s Leadership Team, and the Joint Stakeholder Coronavirus Response Team, I contacted the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and we made the decision to pivot learning at Consentino to a fully remote model through Thursday, November 12th. At this time, we plan to reopen hybrid learning on Friday, November 13th with our Cohort B students. All other schools remain open in the hybrid learning model as scheduled. Reverting to remote learning is a difficult decision, as we know that students learn best when we have them in front of us. That being said, these steps are being taken to stop the spread occurring at the Consentino School within our staff and give time to reorganize prior to resuming in-person learning. While there have been isolated cases in other schools, the current decision is based on our conversation with DESE and the guidance from DESE and DPH.
Please know that the Consentino school has been closed since Friday in preparation for voting, the school has been thoroughly and deeply cleaned and we are open for voting in the morning, If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to the Superintendent’s Office at the number below. As always, I thank you for your continued support and encouragement. We will continue to monitor the situation at all other schools and keep you informed as the situation changes.
