Letter from the Tilton Principal
Letter from Principal
I would like to take a moment and welcome you and your family to Tilton School. I am very glad you will be attending Tilton this year; Home of the TILTON TIGERS. Please know that it is my goal to insure that you have a positive and enriching year within which your child/children will grow both academically and socially, whether you are in Kindergarten and just starting on the road to life long learning or if you are joining us in grades 1, 2, 3 or 4.
Tilton School was built in 1890 and its past is richly embedded in the history of Haverhill. It is not unusual to be in even a small group of adults and hear one say, “I went to Tilton School” and the pride in their voice is simply unmistakable. As you walk down our halls and stair cases you notice the beautiful shiny hardwood floors that show the wear of generations of students who passed before you. But more than the physical building and the history therein, you will find children and adults working together towards a common goal.
For the Kids!
Tilton School proudly educates, on average, 640 students ranging from grades k-4. We are a school-wide Title-One school which allows us to provide academic support across the curriculum to all who attend Tilton School. We have a school based math specialist. Reading Recovery works with our grade one students on a one-on-one basis to advance their reading development. The Discovery Club supports children with homework, enrichment and PE both before and after school. We have a student Government made up of Grade four students as well as intramural sports programs offered to grade four students in conjunction with the district. The Tiger Program is an awards program that helps students to strive for excellence in academics, behavior, attendance and reading. There is something for everyone at Tilton School.
For the Parents!
Tilton School has a very successful and extremely active Site Council and PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). Each group meets monthly. Site Council meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every Month at 3:30 and PTO meets on the 1st Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm. We are constantly looking for more parent involvement. Formal Parent/Teacher conferences follow every report card, but teachers are always available to meet with you, by appointment, before school, after school or during their preparation period. Telephone conferences are also available upon request.
The Haverhill Public School District has ways to get involved on a larger scale with our District Parent Council, attendance to our Parent Academy and through the Haverhill Public library. Chances are you’ll meet other parents just like yourself and work together with them to support and enhance your child’s’ educational experience.
Our staff is made up of a dynamic group of individuals, some of whom are fresh out of college, energized and ready to run with the most current, research based models of education. They are constantly collaborating with those quality teachers who have stood the test of time and have the wisdom of experience that no level of college education can replace. Together they work to meet the needs of each and every child through standards based instruction and thoughtful assessment. Our office staff, full-time nurse, para-professionals, custodians and of course volunteers also play important roles in the safety and well-being of all who enter this building.
Once again I welcome you and your family to Tilton School. I look forward to the privilege of educating your child/children for several years to come. Please feel free to contact me so that we can meet, chat and get acquainted. Remember, if we are in this together, it is sure to be a success!
Sincerely,
Mary Beth Maranto
Principal
