Haverhill School Committee - Goals

School Committee Goals
2007-2008
Approved April 26, 2007 as amended

The school committee's goals for 2007-2008 reflect the needs assessment of the system as highlighted by the final report of the Educational Management Audit Council. The eight (8)
goals emanate from the six performance standards. We anticipate they will be reflected in the goals of the superintendent.

    1. Governance and planning decisions, as reflected in both District and Individual School Improvement plans, shall be driven by student achievement data. Administration shall be held
    accountable for implementation.

    2. Standardized curriculum maps shall be drawn in compliance with the State Frameworks. Both vertical and horizontal alignment shall be planned and implemented.

    3. Program assessment shall be an ongoing experience. A process for implementation shall be developed, as well as benchmarks of student and system-wide achievement.

    4. Professional development for all staff shall be an ongoing and valuable experience, resulting in improved student performance. Further, the program leading to the training and development of future educational leaders in Haverhill will result in a pool of qualified candidates to fill administrative vacancies.

    5. Highlighting the relationship between full involvement/participation and success, plans shall be developed to improve both student and faculty attendance. Special consideration shall be noted for subgroups deemed to be at risk. A dropout prevention program shall be implemented.

    6. Financial and budgetary decisions shall be made based upon student achievement needs and best educational practices as measured by such indicators as MCAS and other appropriate indicators.

    7. Create a technology rich environment that supports student achievement and produces lifelong learners better able to succeed in an information society.

    8. Each principal will improve MCAS scores in their buildings by 3% in 2006-2007 school year and an additional 2% for the 2007-2008 school year (total increase 5%). The drop-out rate will be decreased by 3%.
