Hillie hockey’s post-season run ends
The Hillie boys hockey team made it to the MIAA Division 2 North final, but came away on the losing end of a 4-1 score.
The Concord Carlisle Patriots, the tournament’s No. 9 seed, ended the Hillies’ postseason quest.
Still, for the No. 11 seed Hillies, the post-season was a success. The team made it farther than any HHS boys hockey team in memory, and farther than most anyone expected.
The puck dropped at Tsongas Arena on Monday, March 9, at 6 p.m., and the Hillies scored first, carrying the lead into the first intermission.
But the Patriots scored four times in the second and third periods, controlling play for much of the game and dealing the Hillies their only post-season loss.
The highlight of the playoffs came Friday night when the Hillies held off the No. 2 seed North Reading Hornets to make it into the final. Goalie Mike Gleason was impenetrable in the third period, stopping a flurry of shots as the clock wound down.
The Hillies enjoyed tremendous fan support in their post-season run. An army of Hillie faithful made the trip to Lowell Monday to support the team.
