Consentino boys win 3rd straight basketball title
It was a three-peat on Tuesday for the Consentino Boys Basketball Team.
A twice-delayed Middle School Basketball Tournament finale pitted the Consentino Chargers against the Nettle Knights for the 2015 championship. As was the case in 2013 and 2014, the Chargers took home the trophy.
Principal John Mele cheered his team from the bleachers in the Haverhill High School gym.
” I am very proud of my cheerleaders and basketball teams. They are a nice group of kids. They worked hard all year,” Mele said.
The Ellen Eason Cheerleading Exhibition preceded the two championship games. Teams from all the city’s middle school programs participated.
In the girls final game, St. Joseph School topped Sacred Hearts.
Organizer Steven Coco praised the students and their coaches for their commitment to every game of the tournament, despite a long delay because of two snowstorms.
“It isn’t easy to work around the weather with reschedules, canceled school, limited practices, and moare. However, everyone’s efforts paid off with a fantastic finish to our season (Tuesday) night,” Coco said. “The cheerleading exhibition was a great display of all of the hard work put in by coaches and team members.”
Coco congratulated all the basketball teams for a successful season.
